Night at the Museum 2 - Battle of the Smithsonian

Genre: Action, Comedy
Synopsis:

When the Museum of Natural History is closed for upgrades and renovations, the museum pieces are moved into federal storage at the famous Washington Museums. The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) flew on her non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's (Jon Bernthal) rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket from Happy Days, the still from M*A*S*H and Archie Bunker's lounge chair from All in the Family. With a forwarded resume, Larry (Ben Stiller) becomes another caretaker at the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other. Larry enlists the help of Amelia Earheart, who he develops a romantic interest in, and together they try to put everything back in order.

Cabo Girão

I was still thinking about what I should visit when my friends and I decided to go and take a typical beverage from Madeira. Trust me! It is the strongest one I’ve ever drunk, and there’s only one place to find it! You can find it near Cabo Girão (nearly 2 km from the city). All you have to do is ask for "Pé de Cabra" to any of the local natives. They will certainly tell you how to find one. "Pé de Cabra” is a mixture of stout beer, dry wine, sugar, lemon peel and dried chocolate. It tastes good but you should stop after drinking one or you will become dizzy for sure.

Anyway, there I was, on my way, when the idea of visiting, once again, and writing about the tallest cliff in Europe, second highest in the world, emerged. It is situated less than 2 km from the town of Câmara de Lobos. The length of the cliff reaches from approximately 1 km south of Campanário to the west of the urban sprawl of Câmara de Lobos.

Standing at the vertical rock face called Cabo Girão on the main island’s southern coast we begin to understand why it is a popular lookout point as well as a starting point for hikers. Above the cliffs there is a communications tower and the parish of Quinta Grande. In fact it was kind of hard to park there as there were 3 tourist’s buses plus private cars.

It is nearly 600 meters from the cape to the Atlantic Ocean. Atop these majestic cliffs, if you are lucky, you can actually have the chance to see whales offshore, because the waters around the island are so deep. You can also gaze at the horizon over the Atlantic to follow the bending corridor of the Earth. It provides this bird’s-eye perspective that made me wonder what is right next to that endless line. It also made me wonder how Mário Pardo jumped, off this cliff, on motorbike along with his parachute.
The top of the cliff is dressed with eucalyptus, mimosa trees stonecrops, mosses and lichens. A similar stunning view is also possible from the Sea. Hop on a boat to appreciate the enormity of the cliff. I have had the chance to see it, from that perspective because I used to go to my uncle's farm before the cable car was installed in August 2003, on the slope of the cliff, so farmers can reach these low-lying fields easily. I used to spend weekends down there.

The terraced fields lying beneath the cliff, like my uncle’s one, used to be, the only one accessible by boat. Before this, the resources (vegetables mostly) from these fields could only be taken either by boat or along a path with more than 1200 steps. When the boats were unable to get to the pier due to weather conditions, the farmers had to carry the products along this path until they had no energy left.

But the show had to go on and after nearly 20 minutes we made our way to the "Pé de Cabra" tavern. After 4 glasses we all went back home happy as never before. We just couldn't keep our mouths shut. But be warned! Don't you try to drink too much on your first try of the mighty “Goat's Foot".

As you can see this is a place you can’t miss if you ever visit the “Pearl of the Atlantic”, Madeira Island.

PS: You might want to check out the two jumps Mário Pardo has done in Cabo Girão. You can have a better idea of the huge cliff as well as the great landscape.

Biography of Rachel Smith

Rachel Smith was born January 10, 1983. At the age of 26, she has never left her “cosy, simple and beautiful flat” in Jackson Road. Daughter of Paul Smith, a taxi driver and Kate Smith, a 4 star hotel manager, Rachel describes her parents in short words, “They are always ready to help a friend in need”.

She reveals she was this “pretty much quiet child” who played with barbies, watched TV, played football along with her friends from the neighbourhood, but she says they never got into trouble with other kids. “That’s a hell of an achievement, I know”. During her childhood, her most traumatic experience was seeing her dog, Fluffy, dying of cancer. “We all loved that dog”, she says.
She still hangs out with her childhood friends. “Oh! Steven, Denise and Paula are the best friends in the World”. They usually go out at the weekend to a pub most of the times. “We have a close relationship. Paula works in my department. A great coincidence isn’t it?”

At the age of 17 she started working in a clothes shop, but that experience only lasted a month. She carried on with her studies and at the age of 23 she started working until this day for the government as an administrative assistant.

But, it was when I asked her if she had a boyfriend that she exposed all her sweetness, explaining how they met. “I first met him 5 years ago but we only got together 5 years later. You see he was just a boy, he was 14 and I was 20. Plus I had a boyfriend back then. Dating him was the last thing on my mind. Still, I love him very much. Don’t ask me why cause I don’t really know, but I’m really happy with him.” She says the thing she likes the most about her boyfriend is “his angel face, although he’s no angel at all”.
It was then that I asked what her goal was at the moment. She answered it as if she was living it at moment. All she wants is to stay with her boyfriend forever, have a life together, and who knows, have children, which she revealed scares her to death.

Bed Time Story

As I ate my breakfast I had a curious feeling that I had to see the end of the dream I had had that night. So I finished my bread and went back to bed. I was so excited about it that after a couple of minutes. I was back in the dream, standing at the entrance to this terrifying dark cave, along with Liadan and Cavin. But for you to understand the whole story, I must start from the beginning.

Liadan, Cavin and myself were the most adventurous, brave, curious and friendly children in the whole town of Goldshire. Everybody knew us as the inseparable group.

One day Cavin told us he had heard his father talking about this place full of secrets, Redridge Mountains. Liadan and I had heard our fathers talking about it as well. They spoked about this hidden treasure up in the mountains.

We had never been there because it was a 3-hour journey just to get there. But we had our chance in a couple days. At the following weekend, the Noblegarden Festival was going to take place so we could disappear for the whole day without our parents noticing it.

With all the excitement that day came sooner than we thought. We hit the road and finally arrived in Redridge Mountains.

Once on the mountains we climbed and walked along these short paths until we found ourselves at the entrance of this terrifying, dark cave. We stood there in silence for a couple of minutes with all these fearful thoughts running through our minds.

“So guys”, said Cavin, the bravest one, “Let’s get in there and find that treasure”. Without a word, Liadan and I just followed him.

After being covered with webs we found the chest. We were excited, jumping and hugging each other but there was no lock on the chest. Although it was suspicious, we would never guess what was to come.

As we opened the chest there was only a letter at the bottom which had our names on it. Our hearts started pumping harder, but it wasn’t excitement anymore. Now it was terror!

Cavin opened the letter and it was just a blank sheet. Nothing was written besides our names. Suddenly we heard footsteps throughout the cave. We just froze in terror.

It was Cavin's father to our surprise.

Our parents had set it all up so we could get caught out of town. They suspected we would get caught. They suspected we were crossing the line and going beyond the borders of Silverpine Forest. Not even with all the warnings from our mothers would we stop.

Once home, Liadan’s father had a word with mine before leaving. Immediately my father turned to me. He started giving me a piece of his mind when I just woke up. "Woah! What a silly dream" I thought.I think this dream alerted me to the consequences I could face in the future.

“Stephen, wake up! We are already late to the Noblegarden Festival!", said my mother.
